Open Those Windows Morning and Night – Frugal Tip
One of my favorite things about early fall is that it’s just the right temperature. It’s cool enough in the mornings and evenings to open up the windows and let in plenty of fresh air. Not only will it make you feel better, it’s good for your energy bills too. Here’s what we’re doing right now to safe on both heating and air.
As soon as I get up in the morning, I open all windows and doors that have a screen on them (to keep the bugs out). It helps to have windows on opposite ends of the house open to create a nice breeze. They stay open until it starts to warm up outside. After that windows and doors stay closed as much as possible and if it’s very sunny, I also close the shades to keep the house from warming up too much. Windows open back up after the sun goes down at night and the temperatures start to drop. I keep some windows open most of the night until it starts to get too cold for that.
This time of the year I have to remind myself to stop relying on Air Conditioning and open those windows early instead. I also run the washer and dryer at night to keep the house cooler. Give it a try and watch your power bill go down without all that heating and air conditioning.
