Homemade Buttermilk
I would love a recipe for buttermilk. If you have a good one, please share as a comment below.
Thanks.

From the Hillbilly Housewife:
Great question Debbie. I don’t always keep buttermilk in the fridge and often am ready to try a new recipe only to find that the one missing ingredient is butter milk. In a pinch I use the following recipe:
Easy Instant Buttermilk:
- 1 cup of fresh milk
- 1 tbsp of white vinegar (or lemon juice)
Mix everything in a jar and let sit for a few minutes. Use in place of “real” buttermilk in any recipe.
You can easy modify this to make just the quantity you need for your recipe.

You can also make big batches of actual buttermilk by starting with some buttermilk culture, using it to turn milk into buttermilk.
Here’s a recipe from the Dinning on a Dime ebook mentioned below:
Homemade Buttermilk Recipe
from Dining On A Dime Cookbook
3 1/2 cups milk
1/2 cup buttermilk, room temperature
Mix ingredients and let sit out in warm spot for 24 hours. After that, you have a fresh batch of homemade buttermilk! This works great. Don’t forget to save a half cup at the end so you can make a new batch of homemade buttermilk. It keeps going and going! Makes 1 quart.
You can use any kind of milk including dry milk, but regular milk works better than skim or dry milk. This recipe is a good way to use sour milk without throwing it away.
