Do You Shop At The Farmers Market?
I love my local farmers markets. I’m blessed to have one within easy driving distance both Wednesdays and Saturdays. Many of the vendors overlap and it gives me a chance to get to know them while I’m stocking up on some fresh produce. In fact, I’m about to head out to mine and can’t wait to see what I’ll find.
Shopping at the farmers market can seem a little intimidating at first. You never know what you’re going to find from one week to the next and it forces you to cook more seasonally. It’s an adjustment at first when you’re used to shopping at the grocery store that has your staple fruits and veggies year around.
Vegetables also don’t always look as picture perfect as they do in the store. They come from real farms and more than make up for it in flavor and nutrients.
Take a look at this article by ModernFarmer.com with 7 tips to shop smarter at the farmers market. Those tips are:
1. Embrace Whole Vegetables
2. Think of Time and Place
3. Go Early
4. Not Everything Is Better
5. Know Your Produce
6. Survey Like a Hawk
7. Try Weird Stuff
And most importantly have fun and get to know the people that grow your food.
